Introduction

Welcome to Ubby's quick start guide on using the intelligent search feature. The search functionality in Ubby is designed to help you find relevant information quickly and efficiently, whether it's from internal, external, or hybrid data sources. This guide will provide you with instructions on how to use the search feature effectively and offer tips for optimizing your searches.

Overview of the SearchTool

Main Function

The SearchTool is the fundamental tool in Ubby. It allows the assistant to search through the knowledge connected to Ubby via Connectors.

Integration

The SearchTool is the only tool available by default for the standard Ubby assistant.

Capabilities

  • Search in Indexed Sources: Perform searches across all indexed data sources.

  • Different Search Methods: Utilize keyword, vector, and hybrid search methods.

  • Apply Filters: Filter results by source type, document set, time period, and tags.

Advanced Features

  • Real-Time Re-Ranking: Re-rank results in real-time for better relevance.

  • Automatic Filter Detection: Automatically detect and apply filters.

  • Metadata Support: Use metadata for more precise filtering.

How to use the Search feature

Step 1: Access the Search Interface

  1. Open Your Workspace: Log in to your Ubby account and navigate to your workspace.

  2. Go to the Search Section: Click on the "Search" tab in the workspace menu.

Step 2: Perform a Search

  1. Enter Your Query: Type your search query into the search bar.

  2. Apply Filters: Use filters to narrow down your search results by source type, document set, time period, and tags.

Step 3: Review Search Results

  1. View Results: Browse through the search results displayed.

  2. Use Real-Time Re-Ranking: Adjust the relevance of results in real-time if needed.

  3. Check Metadata: Utilize metadata for more precise filtering and better results.

Understanding Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

How RAG Works

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is a technique that combines retrieval-based methods with generative models to improve the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated content. Here's how it works:

  1. Retrieve Information: The assistant searches through indexed data to find the most relevant information.

  2. Generate Response: The assistant uses the retrieved information to generate a contextually accurate response.

Document Upload vs. Connectors

  • Document Upload in Chat: When you upload a document directly in the chat, the assistant takes the entire document into account, using its full context to generate responses.

  • Connectors: When using connectors, the assistant searches through indexed data to find the most relevant information and adds it to its context before responding.

Using the InternetSearchTool

Main Function

The InternetSearchTool allows the assistant to search for information on the Internet using the Bing search engine.

Integration

The InternetSearchTool is one of the three tools integrated by default in Ubby, alongside the SearchTool and the ImageGenerationTool.

Usage

This tool can be added to an assistant to enable it to access information outside of Ubby's internal knowledge base.

Complementarity

The InternetSearchTool complements the SearchTool, which focuses on internal knowledge indexed in Ubby.

General Search Features

Search Methods

  • Keyword Search: Find information based on specific keywords.

  • Vector Search: Use semantic understanding to find relevant information.

  • Hybrid Search: Combine keyword and vector search methods for more comprehensive results.

Filtering Options

  • Source Type: Filter results by the type of source.

  • Document Set: Narrow down results to specific document sets.

  • Time Period: Filter results by a specific time period.
